Neji Khang
Neji's journey to discovering his true passion was anything but straightforward. Growing up, he was unsure of what he wanted to pursue, until a transformative experience in his high school Jazz band at West De Pere ignited a fervent love for music. From that pivotal moment, Neji has dedicated himself to honing his craft, continually building his prowess as a musician.
Neji has always felt a relentless drive to improve. This unyielding commitment to self-improvement has been a defining characteristic of his musical journey, leading him to partake in WSMA Jazz as Lead Alto (2022) and being one of 82 high schoolers nationwide accepted to Grammy Camp (2021). Along the way, Neji has had the opportunity to work with renowned musicians such as Anat Cohen, Linda May Han Oh, Cyrille Aimée, and David Bixler, further enriching his musical development.
Neji has also had the privilege of studying with numerous accomplished musicians, including WAMI-winning Tom Washatka, founding member of Earth, Wind, and Fire Leslie Drayton, and Julio Reyes, among many others. These mentorships have profoundly influenced his musical development, providing him with invaluable insights and inspiration.
All of these experiences have paved the way for Neji to pursue his passion academically as a jazz studies major at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Currently the saxophone player for the WAMI-awarded band Luma Knotty, he is expected to graduate in 2027. Neji is excited to continue his musical journey, eager to see where his dedication and talent will take him next.
